February 2005 — AlaskaWriters member Heather Lende has been busy editing 50 short stories in honor of the Rasmuson Foundation's 50th anniversary. The stories, which are all inspired by the people and projects benefited by this major Alaskan philanthropic organization, are written by Alaska writers, including some names AlaskaWriter members will recognize.

Lende says on her site that the essays are all “personal and literary and really good. They paint a unique portrait of what is important to modern Alaskans and provide a rare look into real urban and rural Alaskan life.”

Essayists include Sheila Toomey, Tom Morphet, Sherry Simpson, Ernestine Hayes and Cinthia Ritchie — as well as AlaskaWriters member Andromeda Romano-Lax and editor Sonya Senkowsky. More essays are on the way. See them all at Rasmuson.org.
